Cable and Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) on Wednesday announced that it will be spending a record $124 million on a new Christmas promotion that will reward customers for receiving calls from another phone. This is in addition to the $100 million it is spending to promote the Anyone Plan that was launched in September.
PROMOTION UNVEILED
The new promotion was unveiled by Rodney Davis, C&WJ president and chief executive officer at the company's head office in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew yesterday. According to Mr. Davis, "the Anyone Bonus will give every bmobile customer on the Anyone Plan real rewards for receiving calls." He said C&WJ customers will receive one dollar for each minute of call received from any phone on any network to their phone. The promotion will run until February 5.
Customers stand to benefit from more incentives when they purchase new handsets next week, as well as more credit when they use the bmobile electronic top up service to add call credits to their account.
C&WJ's main competitor, Digicel on the other hand, has been offering attractive discounts on handsets and other prizes to attract new customers for the Christmas season. Digicel, one of the newest cellular service providers, currently has the larger share of the market with approximately 1.5 million customers.
WORTH THE MONEY
David Reavley, senior vice-president of Mobile Services at C&WJ said the response to the new marketing initiatives has been worth the money being spent. "The response has been very positive and very responsive. We are trying to put the emphasis on the cost of usage, not the cost of the handset and bmobile has set out on a track to always represent the best value," a confident Mr. Reavley emphasised.
While not willing to divulge the number of new customers that has been gained from the new promotions, the senior vice-president of Mobile Services said "our expectations since the launch 55 days ago have been exceeded and I expect for the next 55 days our expectations will continue to be exceeded."
